Exercise #4: Drawing Clothing on Cartoon Bodies

Clothing is a valuable tool. Not only can it tell you about a character, it can tell you how they are moving, or how they were just moving. Hair has a similar use. Consider this superhero, at rest, in motion, and after coming to a sudden stop:
Drapery and hair follow the motion of the object they're on.
Clothing can bunch up, or lift - it can be baggy or tight, shiny or textured. The trick is to convey as much as you can with as few lines as possible.
Now that we know how to draw a basic figure, and have looked at how clothing can sit on and enhance a figure, try adding the final art to these skeletons. You can use the example on the right, or come up with your own. See how many varieties you can think of.
There's one more important ingredient: your character needs to interact with their space, and it so happens those tools of life are also great tools for expression: let's look at hands and feet!
