Faces: Creating a character from the neck up...

Consider all the features a cartoonist has to choose from.
There are the eyes:

The ears:

The nose:

The mouth:

And the hair (or hat):

Building a Character

Let's pick a face shape (anything you like) and add in some features to create a unique character:

How might they look if they're happy, angry, or sad?:

A cartoonist has to be able to draw their characters from different views, so let's let them move around.

Take your initial drawing and extend some light lines to show where various features lie, then use that as your guide as you draw the face turning:

It's much harder to draw your character from extreme angles - think of geometric shapes to help you imagine how your character might look from above and below:

Now that's a fully realized character!

But they'd probably like to have a body right?
